I have 12 students (yahoo-only 12!) and they all love to read and write. In fact, my students have been begging for more Writer's Workshop time when they can spend an hour writing, editing, and publishing. How can I say no?
While working on handwriting or other tasks in second grade, I always turn on "thinking music" which is currently a cd of praise music (Songs for Worship-Kids: Awesome God). Yesterday, I looked out at my class and saw all 12 students happily humming or singing along to the music as they worked. It made my heart happy and skip for joy!
I am reading Charlotte's Web to my class during snack (it is my all time favorite) and as we read, we talk about tricky vocabulary. After discussing the word salutations, I have been greeted every morning with a "Salutations" from almost every student!
A fellow teacher did her chapel and talked about how we are like apples and we can drop seeds of kindness and love or seeds of hatred and bitterness wherever we go. She further stated that we should be the sweet kind of apples that drop seeds of kindness and love. During her message and demonstration, one of my students who is majorly ADD, leans over to me and says, "Miss Miller, we are kind of like apples in another way. You have to wash apples to get the dirt off of them and we have to be washed in baptism to get the dirt off of us."
Finally, I receive more hugs in a day than I normally would in a month-very sweet!
Life is good in second grade, very good and I am indeed blessed!
