Here is an e-mail excerpt from a colleague of mine, at which I had to laugh, simply because I teach Language Arts and stress the importance of spelling. The background you need for the child is that he thinks he is "gangsta" and he has a shady past (his mom used to be a stripper). Unfortunately for him, he often makes boneheaded comments and gets himself into trouble because he is trying to impress others or just isn't thinking.
From colleague:
When I was gone last week, I had the kids watch a video about math careers and then fill out a sheet on what career they might like and how much math is involved. (Insert Student name here)’s career of choice: gangsta RAPER. It’s amazing how important that 2nd P is!
